MISSED OUT ON FUNDING? Still get up to €900 in subsidies for your wallbox!

On November 23, 2021, the "KfW 441" funding program for wallboxes began, with a special focus on companies and businesses, and a funding volume of 350 million EUR.

Private individuals, however, have not been able to submit applications since October 27, 2021, as the "KfW" 440" funding has since expired.

Under the designation "KfW 441", companies, municipal enterprises, freelancers, and non-profit organizations now have the opportunity to submit a direct application via the KfW development bank. (the following link leads directly to the application portal).
Municipal enterprises have separate requirements and conditions, which can be found under
"KfW 439".
Primarily, we will focus in this blog post on the funding "KfW 441" for entrepreneurs and companies, as we assume that our readers are primarily private individuals or entrepreneurs.

The purpose of the funding is to further develop electric mobility, enabling companies in particular to offer charging points for their internal fleet or for employees' electric cars and plug-in hybrids.

Small side note: A charging point is defined as a device where a maximum of one electric car can be charged, but not several at the same time. If two cars can be charged simultaneously with one wallbox, this wallbox counts as two charging points.

Additionally, the wallboxes must not be publicly accessible, meaning that the charging points may only be available to company employees or staff. The funding call therefore only applies to rented or owned properties of the company.
This means that the company must have rented or purchased the parking spaces where charging takes place.

Now, the most important facts at a glance:

 What is funded?

• Purchase of the wallbox
• Costs for energy management system to control the charging station
• Electrical connection or network connection
• Necessary electrical installation work (earthworks)

 IMPORTANT: Planning and consulting costs are not funded!

 Who receives the funding?

• Companies
• Sole proprietorships
• Freelancers
• Non-profit organizations including churches
• Public corporations and institutions (chambers or associations)
• Municipal enterprises

This means that self-employed individuals with a secondary occupation are also eligible to apply.

 Conditions

• Grant amounts to €900 per charging point, maximum grant amount €45,000, equivalent to approximately 50 charging points at one location
• Total costs (purchase + installation) must be at least €1,285.71 net per wallbox, otherwise no funding will be granted

 Requirements

• Application must be submitted before construction begins; the project may only commence after positive feedback
• New hardware - used or existing wallboxes are not permitted
• Location-bound in Germany - fixed wiring at parking spaces and no mobile charging station
• Maximum charging capacity 22kW per charging point
• Charging station powered by 100% renewable energy (operator must conclude a green electricity contract for the meter to which the wallbox is connected)
• Wallbox must be on the eligible list of the KfW (right "List of funded charging stations")
  -> ATTENTION: Tesla wallboxes are (as of 16.05.2022) not eligible for funding
• Usage only for employees with private or company vehicles
• Charging point must be used for at least 6 years

After you have successfully connected and commissioned your wallbox, you must register it on the online platform OBELIS
"Reporting Charging Infrastructure" and carry out a report semi-annually.

In response to our inquiry to KfW whether the semi-annual report was actually necessary to receive the grant, there was a clear statement.

Accordingly, the "semi-annual reports to NOW GmbH were not included in the fact sheet because they were not relevant for grant 441." This means that you only need to apply for the reporting ID once to then request payment in the KfW grant portal.
To obtain this ID, you only need to register your charging station under "OBELIS gewerblich". There, necessary master data (commissioning date, construction costs, etc.) will be requested.
As soon as all information is complete, your reporting ID will be displayed in "OBELIS gewerblich", which you will need for payment in the KfW grant portal.

4. Receive grant

In the final step, you must confirm the registration of your wallbox and its proper installation in the KfW grant portal . For this, you will need the allocated reporting ID from "OBELIS gewerblich" as well as all eligible invoices from the specialist companies.
If you have completed all steps correctly, the grant will be paid to your specified bank account.
